What does temperance mean to us?
To make stronger and more resilient through hardship.
Temperance means to put a piece of metal in the flame; to withstand the extremes and to survive but only through transmutation. To become a useful tool because of said alchemical change.
&/or
To dance the dance of life and death. To become entranced in the many movements, the flow, to meld and to become powerful within this attunement. From this place one can change the ocean waves into fire. One can bend without breaking. One can blend the chaos into equilibrium. One can grow nourishment from scattered nutrients in an unpredictable climate and feed during famine.
Walk with us in the disequilibrium of chaos and wield its force, tempering its elements into something nourishing.
We believe that the effects of freely giving care to people, plants and animals alike range far outside of our own sphere of influence. This law of reciprocity leads to healthier soils and forests, higher yields and resilient biotic communities that can support each other with less human assistance. The more caretakers we have for the land, the stronger our regional food systems are, and keeping our community’s business connections local enables further support for the people that steward our natural resources.
Our vision for Temperance Farm is to provide nourishment for the growing community of land-aware, working people of Macon County. We believe that everyone deserves access to healthy food, yet we know from experience at other small farms that high prices restrict most people from accessing naturally grown produce from local, sustainable growers. We want to offer our produce at the fairest price possible.
